Philosophical Naturalism

October 17, 2010

Can’t we be done with this kind of drivel?

“… there are certain questions that science leaves unanswered: Why is there something rather than nothing? What is the ultimate ground of morality?”

This from the new-atheism-hater Michael Ruse.

The only answers to these questions worth anything come from philosophical naturalism. It’s a dishonest canard to say ‘science’ (narrowly defined, as is always the implication) cannot answer such questions. Moreover, there is no reason whatsoever to suppose religion can offer any meaningful answers to such questions.

See what Benson and MacDonald (in comments) have to say about it:-
