Self-Sisyphused

Set yourself the type of task i set myself with my last post and everything comes grinding to a halt. So, having paused for two months with my rock, looking up at a supposed summit shrouded in cloud, staring around at a specular panorama of peaks, resignedly peeking down at the dense forest, i let go, let it hurtle down.

The last four days i’ve reread Coetzee’s “In the Heart of the Country.” It’s an extraordinary book and requires (at least to the kind of limited mortal that i am) a second read to yield its power. The whole present earthworld of thought and emotion can be found within Coetzee; a seismic poetry of interpersonal drama and interiority. He roils up the magma. He’s unblinking …
